Why You Need A Capsule Wardrobe

What’s a capsule wardrobe and why do you need one? A capsule wardrobe is a set number of clothes and accessories that are easily mixed and matched with one another to create a variety of outfits. It makes it easier to get dressed. It keeps your closet neat and tidy. It helps you save money -- which may be the best reason of all! You keep your capsule wardrobe for about three months before updating it for the new season.

You’ve probably seen so many of your favorite celebs and influencers rocking capsule wardrobes, and yet you may not have realized it. But that’s one of the reasons they always look so put-together. A capsule wardrobe takes the guesswork out of dressing for celebs and influencers too.

Building one is pretty simple. There are basically four steps:

Step 1

Select a solid base color. It is usually a darker color like navy or black or deep gray. However, it can also be a solid neutral like white or off-white. Typically, your bottoms and one-pieces will be in these colors. For example, your jeans, pants, dresses, jumpsuits, and matching sets.

Step 2

Select neutral-toned coordinating essentials in shades like brown, taupe, camel, and sand. These will include a lot of different tops, such as bodysuits, tanks, crop tops, blouses, and t-shirts. For colder months, it will also include cardigans, sweaters, coats, scarves, and jackets. With a solid base and neutral top, the possibilities for outfits can be endless.

Step 3

This is an optional step, but it involves choosing a fun accent color like green, pink, or yellow to add some flair to your wardrobe. You can mainly have your accessories be in these fun colors, but also some coats or blazers. Imagine a pair of pink shoes with black jeans and a neutral bodysuit. It’ll look so fetch, if you don’t mind us saying so.

Step 4

Choose your key accessories (jewelry, bags, sunglasses, hats) and several pairs of shoes to keep in rotation. Keep these in solid neutral colors for the most part.
